Excellent, GOOD read and educational as well, good for the whole family. A friend told me about this book.
Our whole family fell hard for this darling little quail. I would read chapters to her as would my sister during times she couldn't sleep or rest well. I know I will never touch quail on my plate again. I have read this book three times and it is just a heartwarming and sweet every time. My first experience with "Robert" was while my mother was in declining health and bedbound.
This and the book Mr Popper's Penguins were my favorite "comfort" books as a child- and I don't even consider myself a bird person. I read this many, many moons ago (I mean as a youngster in the late 60's) and when it popped up on my Amazon face page it made me smile and feel happy inside. Thank you Margaret Stanger, wherever you are.
What wonderful creatures God has made. It warms the heart. It will make you both laugh and cry. I first read this book many years ago when I was a young girl. I am thankful that I got to spend some time with Robert. It is one of my favorite books. Somehow I lost the book and was afraid I would never find another copy. I loved the story then and now.
But oh. The quirks, the idiosyncrasies, the challenges -- all here. how I would have enjoyed better illustrations. This is an adorable book, almost as much a nature study as narrative, about Robert the Quail and the two families who fostered him. The focus is on Robert, with only enough background on the families to make you glad that they found him.
